WDSD 2012

March 21st 2012, was the first ever World Down syndrome Day as identified by The United Nations. We didn’t want to let this day pass by without acknowledging it so we created and ran an event for 180 people in Toronto to mark the occasion. The event featured a cocktail event, jazz band, silent auction of art work completed by individuals with Down syndrome, introductions of various Toronto based organizations that support individuals with Down syndrome, and a series of short films featuring Down syndrome and a feature length film entitled ‘Happy’ that educated on the audience on “what makes people happy” . And although the film had nothing to do with Down syndrome (and many people in our community didn’t like the reference to happy!) we felt it symbolized why Circle 21 exists. The event was a success and unintentionally launched Circle 21!
